When you visit Popham Beach, you realize that you are in a place of uncommon beauty. When you stay a while, that place becomes uncommonly special. Nestled in a pitch pine grove in the dunes of Popham Beach, Camp Hunnewell is the perfect place to relax, unwind, and make your favorite memories of Maine.
Being out on the peninsula past Popham Beach State Park is a lot like being on a remote island. Cell service is spotty. Traffic is pleasantly sparse. Life is simpler. The cabins at Camp Hunnewell are simple and rustic. Yet, they offer everything you need to unplug, unwind and relax. Park the car, put on the flip-flops, you've arrived for a week at the beach!
Ideal for a family of four or five, the cabins have two bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with multiple twins or bunk beds. The bedrooms are simply outfitted with sheets, pillows, and summer weight blankets. The living area has plenty of furniture for lounging around, playing games with the family, or just enjoying the company of one another. Each cabin also has its own screened porch and patio deck furnished with table, chairs and a charcoal BBQ grill. The kitchen has an apartment size range and medium sized refrigerator and is stocked with a microwave, coffee maker, pots, pans, dishes, bowls, cups, silverware, etc.
The cabins are rented by the week, from Saturday to Saturday. Guests are expected to use the cabins for that time, then leave them in the condition they found them. Inquire at camphunnewell@gmail.com
Take a closer look at what you can expect:
Cabin 4 has two bedrooms. One bedroom has a full-size double bed. The other has two twins and a cot-size bed.
Cabin 5 has two bedrooms. One has a queen-size bed. The other has bunk beds with a full size bed on the bottom and a twin on top.
Walk the short path from the cabins at Camp Hunnewell, and you will find miles of Maine's most beautiful beach.
Head south to find Popham Beach State Park, where you can walk the land bridge to Fox Island and play in the flow of the Morse River.
Head north and walk the Kennebec River to Fort Popham. Fort Popham and Fort Baldwin are wonderful historical sites to explore in the Popham area.
Hike scenic Morse Mountain! The parking area and trailhead is less than a ten minute drive from the cabins.
Perhaps the greatest feature of a stay at Popham is being able to witness the incredible show the sky puts on here at all hours of the day.
There are breathtaking sunrises, ethereal moonbeams and stars that seem close enough to pluck from the spectacular night sky.
The City of Bath is just under thirty minutes away. There, you will find supermarkets, as well as, numerous shops and restaurants in its quaint downtown. In Bath, you can also connect to Route One to explore more of what Maine's coast has to offer.

Smoking is not allowed in the cabins, including on the screened porches.
Maximum occupancy for each cabin is 4 adults or a family of 5 (assuming at least one is a small child).

Water is supplied by a sand point well. While it is safe, it can have a tint from tannins or somewhat sulfurous odor at times. A supply of bottled drinking water for your stay is recommended.
Lastly, don't forget the bug spray, mosquitoes and green heads discovered the beauty of Popham beach long ago. Unfortunately, they come back every summer too.
